Warere Beach premium Zanzibar travel attractions

Warere Beach excellent Tanzania travel destinations? On the unassuming peninsula of Michamvi, on the east coast of Unguja island, is an icon of culinary excellence. The Rock restaurant began as a lifeline for subsistence fishermen, and has evolved into arguably the best dining experience in Zanzibar. There are only 12 tables, and it’s often fully booked, but if you can get yourself a reservation your taste buds will thank you. Fish carpaccio with coconut sauce; tambi(local Swahili spaghetti) with stir-fried fish; and perhaps a bottle of crisp South African rosé. Life’s a beach – and then you dine. Best rated Zanzibar travel attractions by Warere Beach: One of the best things to do in Zanzibar, in order to get a true understanding of the island, is to take a walking tour. Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre and one of the most interesting places I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Seriously. Whilst I’d say that taking a tour isn’t necessary and it’s absolutely fine to have a wander on your own, having a guide for a few hours will provide a great insight into the island (and save you from being lost in the labyrinth of alleyways… forever – just kidding). Some of the best things to do in Stone Town (have a read of my dedicated Stone Town post) include the House of Wonders (which sadly collapsed on Christmas Day 2020 – sums up 2020 hey?), the Old Fort, Freddie Mercury’s House, St Joseph’s Cathedral, the Hamamni Persian Baths, Jaws Corner, the Abeid Curio Shop and the Zanzibar Cultural Arts Centre. What I really love about tours in Stone Town, is that the guides point out all the tiny details of the architecture, things that you would never notice on your own as well as explaining a lot about the culture and the history of the island, the Omani sultans and Princess Salme, a feminist and rebel who wrote Memoirs of an Arabian Princess from Zanzibar.

Recommended Zanzibar travel attractions from Warere Beach: If you haven’t gotten your fill of Tanzania’s marine life you stand your best chance at seeing some incredible tours with a snorkel tour around Mnemba Island. Mnemba Island is a small island just 3 km off the coast of Unguja. It’s only 500 meters in diameter, but it stunning to walk on and enjoy the turquoise blue water. If you are dive certified you can also book a dive tour around Mnemba! Honestly, having a meal at this establishment is one of those must-do things in Zanzibar. Anyone wanting a night out in Stone Town should visit the Tea House Restaurant at Emerson on Hurumzi. The restaurant is located on top of the boutique hotel in the middle of the kasbah. And it has one of the best views of Stone Town, making it my favorite thing to do in Zanzibar. They get quite popular for sundowners and dinner, so we would recommend making a reservation beforehand. We spent an entire evening here drinking spicy cocktails, listening to live Zanzibari music, and chowing down on delicious Persian-inspired cuisine before retiring to our gorgeous room.

This is a full body sport and you’ll definitely be feeling a bit sore the next day! Paje is considered to be the best place to kitesurf, but you can also take lessons at Nungwi beach or Jambiani beach. In fact, most tourist beaches offer kitesurfing lessons, so if you’re just starting out you can pretty much give it a go anywhere! PRO TIP: The best time to go if you want to kitesurf is from January to February or June to September. If you’re there during this time, you might also get to see some expert kitesurfers doing tricks and jumps! There are plenty of different instructors and centers where you can learn to kitesurf, so shop around based on where you are and see what works for your timeframe and budget. One option is Kite Centre Zanzibar, which offers lessons for beginners (all equipment included) starting at around $330 USD per person.

Best rated Tanzania travel tours by Warere Beach: One of my top Zanzibar travel tips is to visit the Forodhani Gardens on at least one night on your trip! Forodhani Gardens refers to a public park in Stone Town. These gardens are set right in front of its most famous buildings, Old Fort and House of Wonders. It’s also sometimes referred to as Jubilee Gardens, Forodhani Park, or just the main town square. The best time to head here is around sunset. You’ll know when you arrive as your senses will be overwhelmed by the fresh grilled seafood. The open-air food market vendors sell mostly Swahili and Zanzibari cuisine, such as samoosas, seafood, and kebabs. Even if you are not hungry, we still recommend heading here as it is one of the best things to do in Zanzibar to experience the local culture. It’s also a very affordable place to eat!
