Highest profits on YT ? Eight-year-old Kaji got his start on the channel when he was just 3 years old by unboxing toys on camera. He’s matured to conducting science experiments and branched out beyond YouTube with a line of more than 100 toys, clothing items and more, a show on Nickelodeon and a deal with Hulu. High-minded programming can be found on YouTube—it just doesn’t make much money. YouTube’s ten highest earners brought in a total of $162 million between June 1, 2018, and June 1, 2019, including Ryan and Nastya, as well a five gamers who play popular titles like Minecraft and Fortnite. Dude Perfect (No. 2, with $20 million), features five thirtysomethings playing with adolescent toys like a giant Nerf ball, and Rhett and Link (No. 4, with $17.5 million), who perform food stunts like tasting Flamin’ Hot Cheetos-flavored Pop-Tarts.
Seth Rogen stars as a reporter who ends up crossing paths again with his former babysitter, played by Charlize Theron. Big twist? She’s also Secretary of State. But the impossible set up proves to be a charming enough entry with the help of its cast. Rogen and Theron make up for more than a few structural issues in this otherwise hilarious comedy. The Beach Bum should have just been terrible, and yet, it is the absolute perfect comedic vehicle for Matthew McConaughey. While the actor has been making more dramatic turns lately, The Beach Bum has him playing the slightly scruffy, rough around the edges stoner bro that’s always prepped and ready for a drink on the beach. It’s not his greatest film, but if any movie has captured McConaughey’s aesthetic, it’s this one.
This is a fake music video created by comedy hip-hop group, ?The Lonely Island. In case you’ve forgotten, these were the same funny guys who brought you hit song spoofs like “D*ck In A Box” and “Mother Lover.” The song features R&B singer Akon, performing with The Lonely Island members Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone. You can also catch cameo appearances by celebrities Akiva Schaffer, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively, and John McEnroe. This sketch appeared on “Saturday Night Live” as a digital short in 2011. As the title suggests, the song is about some dorky guys who are very excited because they finally got to have sex. See more funny clips on YT.
Best video for a song in 2019 ? One of the year’s warmest success stories: when Georgia released Started Out, the first single from her second album for indie Domino, at the end of 2018, it became a surprise Radio 1 hit. So did its follow-up, About Work the Dancefloor, prompting the label to push her album to 2020 to give the singles time to breathe. AWtD is a fine teaser for a record that is worth the wait, showing off Georgia’s newfound focus on songcraft and the depth of her references as a producer (the satisfyingly meaningless title is her tribute to the robotic proclamations of Detroit techno forefathers Cybotron). Lacing the juddering pulse of adrenaline with her vulnerable vocal delivery, AWtD puts Georgia in the big, Robyn-shaped pop leagues.
